Can't Access the USB 2.0 Flash Drive ?

Hi,

Needs your help to get this issue solved. I just received my new Latptop XPS M1530 with Windows Vista Ultimate OS. When inserted a USB 2.0 Flash Drive to the USB Connector, the flash drive keeps blinking, and blinking, and blinking forever. I then inserted it to my old laptop with XP professional OS, it works perfectly. I try three flash drives, it has the same behavior. One time I can see the drive number displayed on the Explore but when I clicked on it, same thing happens. I tried an External Hard disk, the green (power) and orange (access) both lights on and I can't access the hard disk. What happens ? Do I need to load something to make it work ? Please help.

Your upset Dell user,

Click start>computer>then double click on the flash drive it should be labeled drive F or G,and see if it there is a set up application to run to start it.If you see setup in the list double click it and it should run.

Have you tried the flash drive in all of three USB sockets? Have you tried any other USB devices such as a printer? Make sure you are inserting the device correctly in the socket. If you try to put in in backwards, you might damage the socket. Also make sure you are not trying to put in in the FireWire port. If nothing will connect, you may have a hardware problem. With most newer USB devices, Vista will automatically install any needed drivers or wikk tell you that they can't find one.

I have found that some USB drives needed to be updated to work with Vista. Go to the makers website and look for the necessary uppdate files for your USB Drive.
