Auto click by cursor

This is so annoying!!  How do I keep the cursor from auto-clicking when is sitting over a button or a menu item??  I have looked everywhere in the documentation, online support etc.  I just want the touchpad cursor to point, I'll take care of the clicking!!!

I think there is an option in the mouse/touchpad settings to disable the click function.

Thanks, I did find the option to turn off 'tapping' on the touchpad in the Mouse properties /Control Panel.  No more random clicks - I'm a happy camper!!!

Thanks for your posts. I had the same annoyance on Win XP Pro where the
mouse would auto click when it was positioned over an item for more than
x milliseconds ...

The exact location of the setting to disable this annoyance is

ctrl panel -->> mouse -->> hardware(tab) -->> properties -->> advanced settings(tab)

uncheck the box for "Fast Initialization" and reboot.

If you click on the "?" on this screen and move the cursor over the fast initialization
option for help - it does tell you to disable this function if your mouse is acting
erratically or acting as if you have clicked buttons when you have not.
