Oy mine has been displaying this message as well since i sent it back to dell for a repair on my 300m's monitor. However my problem is even worse as since this has happened, it wont charge my battery (either of them). Any help would greatly be appreciated. I think it might have something to do with the BIOS update that Dell did on my computer while it was being repaired.

Look at the sticker on the bottom of your power adapter. What revision does it say the adapter is? It's been widely discovered that Revision A00 adapters, which are the original adapters that shipped with the first lot(s) of D-family Latitudes, have an internal problem that renders them incompatible with newer machines and/or BIOS revisions. This is why the charger will not charge your battery - the BIOS thinks that it's not a real Dell adapter, and as a safety feature, will not charge the battery. If your laptop is still under warranty, you can call Dell and request that they exchange your adapter for a newer revision that will be compatible with the newest BIOS release.

dang...that's the second time i've heard about that problem. I wonder if the A03s are crapping out too.

I guess call Dell Tech support and see if they'll replace the adapter...

The problem is when I called Dell Tech Support they told me it may be a problem in the Motherboard  thus why am asking in this forum .. but if the problem is common and has been solved by changing the adapter .. I would call 'em once again ..

Thanks !

before you get your system board replaced...what revision is your BIOS? the newest is A13 and if it's anything other than that you should try upgrading the BIOS before you do anything else.

Yes you can upgrade it yourself. It is very easy. You SHOULD upgrade to revision A13.

Hi everyone!

In further reply to those comments already posted, I have recently had the EXACT same problem with my D800.

I telephoned the (extremely) helpful tech support line in the UK and the lady there suggested that the problem was most probably with the BIOS. As I currently do not have access to the net, she downloaded the BIOS upgrades onto a disk and it is winging its way to me now.

I will update when I know as to whether or not this solves the problem. If it doesn't, the lady said the next step was to get a new adaptor.

Thanks all,

H.O.T

It would seem from what someone else posted that you may need to get your system board replaced. Try calling Dell tech support and asking how you can upgrade the BIOS when it's giving this error. This is a case where you DO need to talk to Dell techs if you haven't already.
