Static/white noise through headphones

Inspiron 16 5645

Inspiron 16 5645

Hi, I've just bought an Inspiron 16 5645 and I'm experiencing an issue with the audio through the headphones. Sound quality itself is fine but there is faint white noise beneath the audio, which continues for several seconds after the audio is paused. I also hear the white noise start up when I navigate the sound settings, plus sometimes it just seems to start up at random then stop again?

In the headphone properties, I've tried turning off audio enhancements and hardware acceleration. I've made sure all of my drivers are up to date. I've also tried switching all of the audio drivers to generic, and rolling back the headphone driver. I've tried with different headphones too, but the issue persists.

I feel like I experienced this with my last laptop (HP) but I no longer remember how I solved it. I've seen people suggest changing the default format in the sound settings but it appears to be greyed out on this laptop.

Really hoping someone can help me with this as it's driving me crazy! Thanks in advance.

Have you tried reinstalling the audio drivers? If not, reinstall them to see if that will resolve the issue.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

I tried uninstalling the Realtek audio driver (from the device manager) and then reinstalled by downloading the relevant driver from the Dell website. This resulted in me losing the audio entirely. I could hear faint whistling and crackling noises through the headphones when restarting the laptop but I couldn't hear any actual audio. Rolling back the Realtek driver brought the audio back, but the white noise is also still there, as well as these strange noises during startup.
