Dell Inspiron 1545 - Screen random symbols problem!

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545-0108 laptop. When I press the power button, the Laptop (sometimes) starts loading the BIOS (Dell logo with blue loading bar) and (some other times) the monitor remains off and it needs to connect the external VGA cable to redirect the signal to an external monitor.

When you finally get signal (and you can see text/graphics in any monitor), the BIOS loading step (Dell logo with blue loading bar) appears correctly (plus the inside BIOS menu). But after that when POST runs then the screen becomes unreadable in the most of its space due to exclamation symbols ("!") which appears in it!

Please see the attached images for better understanding of the problem.

What could be the problem? And where??

Thank you!

The GPU has failed - the mainboard must be replaced (or the system; it may not be worth the cost to replace a board on a system this age).

Anyone guys? Have anyone seen this problem again? What do you think is bad to fix it? Thank you.

Are you sure? Have you ever seen this problem again? I'm seeing it first time in my life!! Meanwhile, I have order a new set of dimms to test the RAM, just in case...

Also, why the BIOS menu and the loading BIOS stage (Dell logo) appeared normally? Why the GPU works good in these situations? If the GPU was faulty, doesn't this means that it should be broken too in these situations?
