Can not access PS4210

Hello,

I recently purchased a PS4210 (so am setting it up on my network for the first time) and am unable to access it via my network. I have tried connecting an ethernet cable directly to the eth0 and eth1 cable but am unable to access it. I am able to find the Mac address on the control module, however, it appears that the array is not actually connecting to my network.

I am assuming that it is because it was configured on another network with a static ip that is outside of my subnet, but without a serial cable I am unable to connect directly to the array that way.

I apologize if this is a nooby question, but I am new to networking and this is my first SAN I've ever worked with.

Greatly appreciate any help!

Unfortunately I do not have access to a serial cable. Furthermore, as I mentioned above the device is not showing up on my network, I thought this might be because it was set up on a different subnet than I have on my home network.

Is there a way to set up the device without a serial connection?

Without network connectivity, I believe you would have to use the serial connection to configure it.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Once the EQL array has been configured with an IP address and you don't know that address, only the Serial Port will allow access.   The serial port configuration is not proprietary.  A standard NULL modem configuration should work just fine.  Or connecting to a terminal mutiplexer.   The settings are: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, NO FLOW CONTROL.  That's both HW and SW flowcontrol need to be disabled.

The issue you are going to have once you get connected it logging in.   Since you don't have the grpadmin password either.

 https://www.jordansphere.co.uk/reset-equallogic-password-via-cli/

That link will show you how to gain access using the serial port and allow you to change the password.

Once you get in probably the easiest option is to reset the array back to factory defaults..  After the reset, the grpadmin password will be grpadmin

Then you can set it up on your network and set the RAID policy to RAID6

  Regards,

Don
