Which USB ports should I use to hook up my wired mouse and keyboard

I have a brand new Dell XPS 8700 with a display U2414h windows 7 home premium factory installed. My basic question is when hooking up the wired mouse and keyboard can I use the USB ports on the back of the display OR must i use the USB ports on back of the tower (computer). Right now I am using the USB ports on the back of the display, Is this right or wrong. When I power up the computer and display, the display goes into a power saving mode and nothing else seems to happen.

I tried to load the disk that came with the display but nothing happens. Any and all help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks   bobnancy81

HI,

Use the BLACK USB ports next to the Ethernet port as the mouse and keyboard, these are standard USB 2.0 for the legacy devices. The blue ones are USB 3.0. These don't work when you mix 2.0 in the 3.0.

"There are two USB 3.0 in front and four more USB 3.0 ports and two extra 2.0 ports on back (for a total of 10), as well as an Ethernet jack, and a quartet of video connectors on the graphics card. That’s definitely more generous than usual".

Looks like you have USB 3.0 on side of monitor as well. Are you plugging non-USB 3.0 keyboard and mouse to a USB 3.0 slot?? That why it may not work right. Look at you advertisement......
