Virtual Machines not showing up in OME Power Manager

Hi,

I currently have a cluster of VXRail nodes running ESXi added to OME and have the power manager plugin active. It is collecting metrics as desired, but for some reason, the VMs aren't showing up under Power Manager -> Power Manager Devices -> Virtual machines. Can't seem to figure out why... has anyone else run into this? If so, is there a reason or a fix?

Thanks!

John

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community:

May I ask why you are using OME? We have VxRail manager for that. Do all the VxRail nodes show the same symptom?

Respectfully,

Does VXRail manager provide the same power statistics and policies that OME Power manager does?

It doesn’t have all of the same functions. Which license level do you have for OME? Do the hosts show up and just not the VMs?

I have OME advanced+ trial idrac licenses for testing alongside the standard enterprise idrac license.

And yes, that is correct. The hosts are there with no issue, (they are VMWare hosts) but their VMs aren't showing up.

Hello jholcomb_cca,

Which VxRail appliance are you using?

VXRail E560F, and I also have some Poweredge R640s in there as well.

Is OME installed in a VM? Do you have Openmanage enterprise integration for Vmware Vcenter installed?

Yes, OME is installed on a VM. I do have the vcenter integration plugin installed, though I can't authenticate to a vcenter instance because OME just throws "Unknown Error" all over the place.

Hello jholcomb_cca,

If you check the VM hardware configuration of the VxRail Manager is the network adapter showing as connected? Also, is VMware vSphere Profile-Driven Storage Service is started correctly, as it can cause issues with viewing storage profiles in the vSphere Client?

Yes, VXRail manager VM is connected and working with no issues, all services are running.

At this point I'm thinking about just standing up a new OME appliance and migrating, unless anyone has any other ideas?

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan.

Migration outright refused to work, so I abandoned that idea. I stood up a new appliance, but the new appliance is not listing any plugins. This is so frustrating.

Hello jholcomb_cca,

It would be best to open a support case for this as you are doing the steps correctly but something is not working correctly so that the VM can be seen as they should be.

I was able to figure out the plugin issue. Turned out to be a network issue. VMs from the VXRail hosts still aren't showing up though unfortunately.
