A complaint about the Dell P series business monitor and the retailer.

I have kept using dell monitor for over 20 years since CRT and I used to believed Dell business monitors are the tops in this category until this incident. I am very disappointed about the P series LCD.

I bought the P2719H business monitor in 09/2020. In 07/2024, it got back light faults which resulted in large “shadow” at the screen. With only 3 years warranty, I brought it to the retailer Pbtech New Zealand and I was willing to cover the repairing cost. But they told me no repair and said such monitors were cheap buys and I got what I paid for (very rude). Among all business monitors, this one is more than double of those entry level monitors of same size: MSI, Samsung, Philips.

As per Dell description, the working life is 12 hours per day and 7 days in the warranty period. Besides, normal LCD monitors can last 30,000~60,000 hours which is about 10~20 years.

But my usage was only about 2-3 hours per day and the P series monitor still got faulty right after the warranty. This is not acceptable and not consistent with Dell’s description. Besides, according to online video, such backlight issues can probably be sorted by replacing a couple of capacitors. But Dell’s retailers refuse repairing and the monitor become a large piece of rubbish. Such product is not environmentally friendly.

I hope Dell can contact me to provide a reasonable explanation. Otherwise, I won’t truss the Dell monitor any more.

Dell cannot speak to the retailers tone. But they were correct in the warranty. There are no exceptions to the Dell warranty end date. Once the warranty has expired, there are no exchanges. Dell has never repaired monitors or sold monitor internal components.

@DELL-Chris M Hi Chris, as per previous description, I did NOT expect Free service (replace or repair) after the 36 months warranty. An agreement is an agreement. I was planning to pay for that. But Dell's description/promise as below is simply NOT TRUE

The Dell's description is the usage of 12 hours per day, 7 days and 30,000 hours life. But I only use it 2-3 hours per day averagely over 3 years and 9 month, i.e. only about 4000 hours, or nearly 1/10 of dell's description. Besides, such reliability is also much lower than average of LCD monitors.

I don't want any free replacement, i don't want any "exception", but Dell really disappointed me and it is not longer the top business monitor and not an environmentally friendly company.
