Removing ISL's between 4800 and DCX's
Hi Guys,
Please see the fabric below

we have migrated all the cables off of PSAN_A & PSAN_A_1. Now want to remove 2 switches off of the fabric.
In such a case if the cables are disconnected which switch would become the principle switch?
Will The fabric be segmented since PSAN_A is the priciple switch which switch will become the principle switch? Will zoning be effected?
The switches DCX_1_A and DCX_1_2 are DCX's and all the cables have been moved to DCX_1_A then will it become a principle switch?
5300_1_A is having ISL to PSAN_A and we are looking to move it to DCX_1_A.
The proposed solution is to lay a new cable from DCX_1_A to 5300_1_A and then go ahead with disconnecting from PSAN_A.
Will this cause the fabric to go segmented? Will 5300_1_A become the principle switch?
-Thanks in Advance

Hi,
In response to your questions:
Assuming that the priority is the same for all the fabric members, 10_TAPE has the lowest WWN and will become Principal once PSAN_A_1 and PSAN_A are removed
Theoretically, a Build Fabric process is online fabricwise and zoning should not be affected.
Unless you force it to be principal, it won't.
Traffic should not be segmented and no, 5300_1_A won't become Principal by default.
Once said this, I recommend you to, prior to removing any cable, change the Principal switch. I would make a DCX to be the principal. The procedure is simple (and non-disruptive):
Once you've established a new Principal switch non-disruptively, you should not have any problems removing those switchs.

Thanks a Lot Felipon.
One question ,when enabling principal switch priority should I do this by logging into respective switches and set the priorities individually.

Also what do you mean by Fabric rebuild and is this disruptive?

Build Fabric is the Fibre Channel process defined in the standar that is used to non-disruptively (at least in theory) select the Principal Switch. I recommend you to change the Principal switch in a low activity window.

Hi,
Yes, you have to connect to the switch you want to make principal, increase its priority and force a Build Fabric. This all is done by running the command:
fabricprincipal --enable -force
