ficon brocade director migration
I am going to migrate one ficon director from DCX to 8510B. To avoid any mainframe iocds change, I was thought to use the portaddress --bind command to change the fcid of the ports used by storage to be exactly the same as the old DCX.
I was wondering when I perform the portaddress --bind command to change the fcid will it update the port index as well. My understanding is that the fcid is derived from the port index in hex.

Consider referring to the Brocade Fabric OS Administration Guide, v7.4, too. There, you will find that FICON will require one of the 256-area addressing modes one or two, but not the 10-bit addressing mode zero. Note the dependencies which should be taken into account for identifying the preferred addressing mode for your environment…
I hope this will help you to find your answer?
Best regards,
Swen

Yes I have read those link so can I just confirm that for Mainframe point of view, the iocds file is actually pointing to the address not the physical port and it doesn't matter whether we are using mode 0 or mode 1

Did you have noticed, that the most current Brocade FOS v8.1 will provide a powerful FICON logical switch feature which will include auto-configuration?
The information from the Brocade FOS 8.1 Admin Guide is:
FICON logical switch provides auto-configuration of the following, which simplifies the process of establishing a logical switch in the FICON environment:
After the FICON mode logical switch is created, each port migrating into the logical switch must be bound to an address. Use the portaddress command to bind addresses. Any port that is not bound is kept disabled in the switch until it is bound to an address.
Please refer to the Brocade FOS Admin Guide 8.1.0 for more detailed information.
If you are using FOS bellow 8.1, consider to manually configure the same settings...
Best regards,
Swen
