x17 R2, crackling speakers

Alienware x17 R2

Alienware x17 R2

Hello,

I have received a x17 R2 with what is apparently an extremely common build defect: the left-hand internal speaker is vibrating against something, which makes a crackling noise on certain sound frequency bands at mid to high volume.

A Dell technician came today and installed new speakers, but the issue persists (albeit with a marginal improvement).

Should I ask for a replacement machine? Is there a known fix that really works for this issue? Do all x17 R2 machines have this defect?

Thanks!

Hi again. I have an update.

After a lot of testing, I discovered that this annoying issue comes from the KEYBOARD.

Basically, the keys are resonating to certain frequencies such as human voice on zoom, which produces this horrible crackling.

I have the standard keyboard. Do people with the CherryMX keyboard experience the same issue please?

I have the same problem, I use the volume on 25 To avoid the crackling sound, It is Horrible

I'm getting a replacement and if that doesn't fix it, I'm getting a refund.

It's disrespectful that a machine So expensive does us like this.

Hi @tokapi and @Waitchus welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

This is a Dell Quality Assurance problem, and this issue should have been addressed in their testing. Getting a new replacement Alienware x17 R2 will only provide a fix if this issue is confined to a specific batch of poor-quality keyboards. Dell support should be able to identify poor-quality keyboard batch problems, so a good new/refurbished replacement Alienware x17 R2 can be provided.

Hi, sadly according to videos on the Web, it seems this defects is present on the whole x17 series.

I could improve mine a bit by having the speakers changed by Dell, adding PTFE tape on the supports so that the speakers are not loose, and deactivating all Dolby effects in Alienware Command Center, but the issue is still there sometimes and I don't get Dolby...

I have the same x17r2 laptop with the Cherry Keyboard....Same issues. crackling and distortion.
Dell ahs sent technicians out twice - with speakers and at hen a new back plate.....issue continues.

Outside of this- the sound quality is well below par also for a laptop of this grade.
