X15 R1. My battery is not working

There was an error message shows up before I started my laptop, but only once and I forgot the accurate content. Something like "the battery cannot be xxx".  Now I cannot see this anymore even though my battery is still not working. The battery is fully charged and kept in charge. But the laptop just shuts down if I take off the ac adaptor.

I have just updated my BIOS, so it should be OK. Should I replace the battery with a new one???

BTW, I have done the diagnostics online and passed all the hardware tests, everything is OK.

Hi,

make sure the ac adapter is disconnected until later on in the steps.

i recommend you open up the bottom part of the laptop and disconnect the battery from the board, then hold the power button for 30 seconds.

then leave it disconnected for an Hour or just 30 minutes and then plug the ac adapter only while leaving the battery disconnected.

let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the details. One more question is how to disconnect the battery from the board correctly?  Is there any videos or pictures for instructions? Sorry I'm not an expert on this and I am afraid of making it worse……

If the message was the battery cannot be identified it is possible the battery has problems or in rare instances the MB. This Dell forum thread may help.

I have opened up the part before, but I am not sure if the battery is user-removable.

You said to plug the ac adaptor only while leaving the battery disconnected. Should I place it after all of these steps??

So what I mean is to disconnect the battery from the board, not to remove it out of the laptop.

the ac adapter should be disconnected until close to the end where the battery is disconnected and you’ve already done the power drain.

Hi sorry for the late response:

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/alienware-x15-r1-laptop/alienware-x15-r1-service-manual/removing-the-battery?guid=guid-a7db23f0-bba6-4766-822f-235508b83672&lang=en-us

this should help but only follow what the blue arrow is doing as you don’t need to remove the battery, just disconnect the cable.

Hi @zzz313 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Please create Battery Report. How to check battery health on Windows 11 | Windows Central.

How long does a Dell laptop battery last? When should I consider replacing the battery?

All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance degrades.

For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced within 18 months. Dell recommends buying a new OEM laptop battery when the run time does not meet your needs.

HWiNFO64 provides Battery Wear Level. Free Download HWiNFO Sofware | Installer & Portable for Windows, DOS. The following example shows Battery Wear Level of 11.3% and Current Capacity delivers 100%. Battery performance is good. BIOS Advanced menu says "This Battery is performing normally". This original OEM battery is more than five years old.

Hi, I just tried what u said. The laptop told me that the battery is not set up when I started and I just skipped it. What should I do next?  There is no power option in Setting now.

The wear level is 6.1%. I think it should be fine.
