m17 R4, CPU upgrade from i7-10870H?

I'm looking on Dell Alienware m17 R4 with i7-10870H. Is it possible to upgrade the CPU?

If you mean the Alienware m17 R4 from a couple of years ago with 10th-gen processor, no you cannot. The CPU is soldered to the system board, so you cannot remove it. You would have to replace the system board with one including the Intel Core i9-10980HK.

You would have to decide that. Research what it typically sells for now. When it was new the base model was about USD $2000, but price went up if it came with more RAM, storage, etc. It had good reviews, good screen, keyboard and performance, but don't expect long battery life.

See if the vendor will let you run Dell Diagnostics:
Immediately after pressing the power button to turn on the laptop (or after clicking the Reboot command), press and hold F12 to enter the One Time Boot Menu, select Diagnostics and press Enter. The Dell Diagnostics will test major hardware components. Choose to run the extended tests. The tests aren't as severe as something like BurnInTest, but they will give you a reasonable idea if major components are working properly.
