m15 R7, randomly restarts or shut down

Alienware m15 R7

Alienware m15 R7

Hi,

I have a m15 R7 and I am having some issues with the laptop.  I noticed it after the recent cumulative update march 2024 and when the problems started.  I uninstalled the update ran ok but still had a few issues.  I saw there was a new update and which it installed the cumulative update march 2024 again.

I have installed the latest firmware(today), all updates complete, I run the SupportAssist program(today).  I even bought a really strong cooling pad(IETS GT500) thinking the laptop is over hitting.  I am working on the laptop and all of a sudden a curtain dropping from the top of the screen asking if I want to restart.  I start clicking on the desktop to stop it but then both the monitor and screen on the laptop blinking on and off a few times and then shuts down.  Or is the do the same thing and restarts and then shuts down to restart again.

I have tried running the laptop with the lid closed but still has the same thing occurs.  I even tried to unplug the battery and let it sit for a few minutes and go back into the bios to reset the date and time.

Thank you in advanced for you insight.

Hi @AplCoreJoe welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Did purchase of Alienware m15 R7 laptop include Dell warranty? Please Contact Technical Support | Dell US to discuss How to fix Screen Tearing issues on Windows 11/10 (thewindowsclub.com)

Going back into the BIOS to reset the date and time could indicate CMOS (coin-cell) battery should be replaced, but the Alienware m15 R7 does not have a Coin-cell battery

@crimsom Thanks for your help.  I'll try both options.
