m15 R6, keyboard is locked

The keyboard is unresponsive when the Pin screen pops up, only way to get past it is to reset pin, create new pin and keyboard starts to work again. It happened last week after a system update! Please update again to fix. Three times I have had to reset pin, use authenticator app to access pc then change pin.

I ran Dell updates, not related to BIOS or keyboard and now keyboard works again! This is distressing! I have very low confidence in this machine now. I will be purchasing a MacBook and getting a refund asap!

Try doing a clean install of windows but choose the option to keep your personal data. its in the Fresh Start settings I think because I did that on my 15 R2.

Also after doing the clean install put these files on a USB stick to install them. or If you can install them via the m15 r6 after its done doing its clean install then it work either way.

NOTE: These Drivers are made for use ONLY in Windows 10, if running Windows 11 they will not work at all.

I mean simply keeping your data and resetting it. Its way quicker than the method you were thinking about.

My keyboard stopped working on Alienware m15 R6. I ran bios update, started to work again. Stopped working after sleep, again installed bios update, working.

Just this last hour had the pc sleep and the completely black screen freeze, forced cold start, keyboard now unresponsive again.

If I reboot using F2 I get bios - so keyboard is working, but on windows 10 load still non-responsive!

Ive run out of ideas, I have already re-installed windows. Very anxious, this was an expensive laptop!

my keyboard issue was eventually solved by uninstalling the Alienware command center

Instead of the Microsoft Store app, why not test the AWCC direct from the m15 R6 drivers page?

Congrats on solving the issue! Did you ever install another versions of AWCC on your laptop to see if that lets you keep using the keyboard and change lights?

Sent my Alienware M15-R6 to Curry repair centre, 5 weeks later replaced keyboard. Now 3 weeks after repair I have the same issue, keyboard non responsive after a Windows bluescreen crash.

Same thing happened today, left pc on while having lunch, cam back to frozen pc, cold boot, keyboard non responsive, all lights on. Plugged in keyboard, ran latest BIOS update, nothing. The Cherry keyboard driver wouldnt even install. Then rebooted with F12 on the actual keyboard and entered BIOS where I ran diagnistics, all passed. Rebooted and keyboard worked again. Cost me another 30 minutes! [£30]. So keyboard is fine, the issue must be with the main logic board and or bad drivers/ Windows issues. Since I already re-installed Win10 this is a bizarre hardware fault.

Unplugging the power cord and rebooting the laptop solved this issue for me. Might have been a fluke.

Popping in here to say that this issue is still happening. Great job, Dell - you have permanently destroyed my confidence in your ability to build computers. I use Macs for most everything anyways, my Alienware m15 r6 was a gaming laptop and will now be going to ebay to become someone else's problem.

My solution was to use the on-screen keyboard to get through PIN screen, then uninstall the unrecgonized USB device in Device Manager, then download a BIOS update and restart.

Thanks to all the other users who submitted workarounds and fixes. Why Dell cannot straighten this out after 2+ years of this issue happening is beyond me.

This is very frustrating indeed! I've been having the same issues as many others. I wanted to try to sell my m15 r4 for funds for an upgrade but no one is going to want to buy a laptop that has to be put to sleep every time they reboot their system...

Dell, can you tell us what is causing this issue? Do you plan on releasing software to fix it or is it a hardware issue?

People pay a lot of money for your systems just to have ongoing issues for years.
