SSD Adapter for Alienware Area-51
Hi all / ChrisM,
Can someone tell me what is the part number for the SSD Bracket for the Alienware Area-51? ie. the Adapter that takes in the SSD and allows you to install it in one of the Area-51's six hard drive bay with the latches?
I tried the "XPS Support Line" number that is given to me on the Area-51 manual, after trying to explain for 10 minutes back and forth, and on the mention of Area-51 and blank responses from the support end - I know that it's going to be a long day trying to explain what is "SSD" and "SSD brackets" to these people!
(PS: If anyone is interested: the supposed "experts" on the XPS helpline responded by: me: "Can you tell me the part number for the Area-51 SSD Bracket", R: "Yes sir, no problem was it an LCD bracket you were looking for)
Thanks all!

Don't bother with it. You can slide the SSD right into it with no brackets at all. I did.

Thanks Morblore - that's what I did as well for now ... my concern is that the latch on the left of those SSDs are pushing against the drive, my concern is that it may dislodge the SSD at some time and/or wear out the SATA/Power connectors due to the angle!

Thats strange mine are not touching and I have no fear of them coming out or anything. The latch on the left has a grove in it and the SSD fites in it perfectly which puts no pressure on it at all and also prevents them from ever moving or poping out.
The SSD's fite like a glove in the slot. Its a perfect fite. Are you using intel SSD's? Maybe the ones you have are not the same size?
Go check out newegg. They have a few 2.5 to 3.5 converters. I was going to buy this one but when my SSD's came and I saw how nice the fit was I decided not to. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994064&cm_re=ssd_hard_drive_2.5-_-17-994-064-_-Product

Here are the pictures of the SSD Adapters. Looks like they are the ones. I just ordered 2 Pieces from Dell. I was quoted in Malaysian Ringgit. It is about $52.00 that comes to about USD $17.40. I'll a post review, once it arrives.

Actually that's what i'm doing too right now. But I figured, I have many PCs so the adapter will come in handy. I can use the adapter to house an extra notebook HDD in my XPS 420 or my XPS 410 as a backup. But in the end having the adapter is just nice, feels complete.

When I bought one for my system, it was like 13.99 +tax and shipping. It came to like $20 in the end.
Honestly though, if you have an Area 51, just slide it in like morblore did. That is what I did until I got a bracket, and even then, it really didnt make a difference.

I just slid mine in, also. I tried to use the bracket that comes with the Corsair GT but could not get it to fit with the bracket.

I tried to order the SSD adapter - 6XD4C over the phone with a Dell representative but they could not locate it in their system despite me giving them the product number. Is there a way I can order this online through Dell without having to go through a live person?

You can buy these from outside Dell but they are going for $35-$45 each. If you are going through Dell you could try talking to someone in tech support instead of spare parts. I'v had tech support able to find parts that the spare part dept could not locate. Have tech support try to find it and then relay the info over to sales.
