You can download the free PowerPoint Viewer from MS here.

There is no legal way I know of to get those other programs free.

You will have to buy MS Office.  The MS Office applications are not part of Windows XP, they are separate and unless you paid extra for the Office suite you won't have it.

You can try Open Office 2.0.2 It's free.

I use it, and find it a great piece of software. You can make slide shows and save them as pps and view in power point. Check out the user guides etc on this page. You can download (a big 60 + mb), or order a cd. Includes a word processor etc.

The LEAST EXPENSIVE way to acquire Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is by buying Office 2003 for Students and Teachers.  $125 or so, good for THREE computers.
