HOW TO REMOVE PROGRAM "REAL PLAYER" FROM STARTUP WITHOUT DELETING IT ALTOGETHER
Equipment: Dell Dimension 3000 desktop; Windows XP + SP2. Program called Real Player came with machine. When starting up, it appears as two windows, and significantly delays startup. It also has a window in lower R corner with "News" which is also an interference.
Don't know what it is for, but do not desire to delete it altogether in case a reason to use it turns up. However, would like to get rid of this automatic startup so I would just use it if desired.
Thanks for your advice.

Select the Startup tab. Unclick it in there.

You might want to consider removing it altogether. I replaced it with the free Real Player Alternative which is a lot less intrusive. They also have a nice QuickTime Alternative which I use.

I prevent RealPlayer from bothering me with pop-up windows this way:
1) Open RealPlayer
2) Click Tools, then Preferences
3) Click Message Center
4) Click Configure Message Center
5) Take out all check marks, then click OK.
6) You will receive a warning about doing this. Click OK again.
7) Close out RealPlayer
