Removal of AVG software

Pls can anyone help me? I have been havin probs with AVG and have recently had to restore my pc back a couple of days which has updated my AVG software. So much so that when I open Office I get an Error Message stating "Error Loading Resource dll" when I click OK, I then receive an "Microsft Office Outlook Message" which states "The add-in "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\scanemal.dll" could not be installed or loaded" How can I remove these messages?

Here is the McAfee removal tool.

Here is AVG removal tool.

I would remove both and reboot then install AVG. Only run 1 Virus protection software.

Hi,

Are you sure you don't have some sort of Mcafee scanner on your PC?

The reason I ask is that "Network Associates"  from this:

C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\scanemal.dll

Is from Mcafee, not AVG.

If you were having problems with AVG, it might have been because you didn't properly remove Mcaffee when you put it on your PC.

I suggest you undo your last restore, and make sure ALL parts of Mcafee have been removed, and un-install AVG as well, if need be, then start from there

after a reboot, by re-installing AVG.

Dave, As you can probably guess, I'm relatively new to all this and unsure which link on the majorgeeks link I need to select.

I did raise this once before with Presto and was under the impression that I had removed all traces of McAfee but obviously not!!

Please help and humour an old man!

first go to avg site and download their removal tool. remove every last trace of that peice of junk. http://www.avg.com/download-tools i have 64 bit system so make sure you download the tool for your OS correctly.

their free or paid virus software has gone downhill....now contrary to popular belief norton has gotten their act together on 1 app and 1 app only NAV 2009 which is norton antivirus with spyware removal 2009 ...smallest foootprint ever and a small tool which shows cpu and memory usage because they are not afraid to hide it anymore. http://www.symantec.com/norton/antivirus

forget all other norton products or mcafee...those internet security/antivirus all in ones are junk that munge up the registry quicker than a virus itself.

i assume your running vista but if not xp is fine... windows firewall works fine as i bet you also are behind a router wether separate for wireless of built into your modem... you don't need the added redundant junk.

unfortunetly dell shoves few choices down our throats norton internet security, mcafee and another one...but none are just an AV product they are all in ones and no all in one will do!

good luck

it writes cleanly to the registry upon installation and has become highly recommended on many antivirus/security forums for it's interaction with vista.

I have located the downloads and seen my machine reboot. However, when selecting Microsoft Outlook I still receive the following:

1. Error Message - Error loading Resource dll;

2. When clicking Ok - The add-in,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, returns.

However, when I select ok again, Outlook is ok?

What am I doing wrong?

Tigg09,

you may have a corrupt file in Microsoft / Ofice / Outlook. You can try the "Office Diagnostic" feature. I have never used it but may be worth a try.

How to at the link below.

Hi Tigg09, and welcome to the forum.

As you can see, people hold strong (and different) opinions as to the best Anti-Virus (AV) to use!

I agree, however, that you need to uninstall both AVG and McAfee remnants completely before installing whichever AV you ultimately decide to use.

Which operating system are you using? To find out, click Start>Run and type winver in the Run box.

Assuming you have a 32 bit XP Operating System, click on the AVG uninstall tool called AVG Remover(32bit), and download it to your desktop, from the AVG website:
http://www.grisoft.com/download-tools
.. then double-click on this tool (avgremover.exe) to remove AVG.

To completely uninstall McAfee, go to:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507
... and follow the instructions there.

You should then be able to install the AV of your choice. Be sure you do not go online before successfully installing an active AV.

As for the Outlook error message, try this:
Check if the Addin for Mcafee is still in Outlook.
In Outlook click on Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options tab> Addin Manager or COMM/Addins and disable anything related to Mcafee. Click OK. Restart Outlook.

Many thanks Joe and indeed all of you who have kindly replied.

I have followed these steps and can confirm that this has indeed solved my problems by a) removing AVG & McAfee and b) cleared the Outlook messages!!

There are a few ways to remove avg antivirus but the easiest is to use the avg removal tool . avg came out with an uninstaller that is able to uninstall avg antivirus. Some users have reported difficulties using these tool to remove it. nonetheless, there are other great free uninstallers like ccleaner that are able to uninstall avg with out a problem, give it a try.

This is an old forum thread.

It is preferable to use the vendor's site for downloading the AVG Removal Tool. Select the version applicable to your operating system.

The AVG Removal Tool is available from AVG:  http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
