How Do I Remove Avast Anti-Virus 3.5 Version Software from my Windows XP Operating System?

Hello Everyone,

I hope someone can help me resolve this problem. I have tried almost every way to remove/uninstall this Free Avast Anti-Virus 3.5 version of software from my Dell

Dimension 3000 Personal Computer's Hard Drive. These are the methods I have tried so far.   I have tried removing the Avast Anti-Virus Software Program from clicking on the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel and an error message comes up that says There was an error when you downloaded the Avast Anti-Virus program and you can't delete it.

Then I tried the directions in the E-How Directions in How to Remove Avast from your Computer?  These directions are as follows: 1. Download the Avast Removal Tool link provided in the resources list, choose the save option and save the tool to your desktop. 2.  Reboot and go into the Safe mode by: 1. Restarting the computer.

2.  During the Bootup, continually press the F8 key until you receive a black and white menu with 3 options that will come up that say Safe Mode.

3. Choose Safe Mode and press enter key. 4.  On the Desktop double-click the AVAST REMOVAL TOOL you downloaded prior. 5.  Follow the on screen directions to remove the Avast Files.  I did everything I was supposed to do regarding these directions and I still couldn't remove/uninstall the Avast Anti-Virus Program from my

hard drive.

I even downloaded the Free Revo Uninstaller Pro that should have removed the AVAST ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE PROGRAM. Nothing works! I just bought the AVG

Anti-Virus-Spyware CD and want to install it into my computer as soon as possible. As I am taking two online classes from Mira Costa College and need a reliable

Anti-Virus Program and constantly have to scan my computer first before I take Tests in both of these classes once twice a week.

I also read that 11 other people who installed the Avast Anti-Virus Software are having the same problem as I am having with no luck.

I would appreciate any advice would be greatly appreciate.

Thank you,

Frances De Silva

Avast! 3.5 is an awfully old version. You might want to post your question on the avast! forums (registration required):

The other alternative is to re-install avast! 3.5 (if you still have its installer) and start from scratch the uninstall procedure.

Yottabyte, she already tried that. Read the first post in this discussion.

In addition to the excellent idea by Joe53 you can also try Microsoft's tool to remove programs:

It has helped me to remove programs that got stuck with no other way to get them uninstalled and removed from my system.

mekram;

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is an excellent troubleshooting tool, but you should know it will only remove the installation files and not the program itself.

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
