incompatibility Sony DVD burner / TDK discs ?

I have recently purchased a spindle of 25 blank TDK DvD+R Data/Video 4.7Gb 1-8x discs. I have a Latitude 505 running Windows XP SP2 with a built-in DvD burner Sony DVD+RW DW-R56A. The problem is that I can’t write on these DvDs: the Nero software returns “Unknown error”, the Roxie software pretends that the discs are write-protected. It seems that there is an incompatibility between my brand new burner (2 months old) and the TDK discs. It is quite surprising that two recent products from two of the world leaders (Sony and TDK) should be incompatible.

I asked TDK, they redirected me to Dell for a firmware update. My local Dell support said they don't have one. Useless to ask Sony, they do not care about customers.

Can someone give me an advice?

I'm having the same exact problem except I have CompUSA DVD+R discs.  I don't think it's the discs I think it's the drives.  We have tow other Latitudes that have NEC drives and they work fine.  I'm on the phone right now with Dell Support to swap it out with a NEC.
