i am thinking of buying an 8200

hi there,
i was soo close to buying a top of the line 5000$ computer from dell's site, but as i was checking the site, i read all if these complaints and angry unsatisfied customers who posted their opinions about dell,,,and honestly that is scaring me,,,,,especially that stuff with the default moniters and hardware and how hard it is to get replacments,,,so i think i would be better off not to bother with this unprofesional corporation (thats my opinion of DELL based on what i have read)
so if anyone out there reads this message plz reply to me with ur opinions about dell did they change or not.......

P.S. if you want the best customer support and services go for compaq,,,i know i use one,,,,

AND BY THE WAY I work for the toronto star if anyone wants me to post anything or any reviews about the (DELL CORPORATION) i will make SURE everyone in toronto reads about it,,,,,,,,,,,

thank you for your time,,,,,

Hi Samuel47,
I'm sorry your opinion of Dell only comes from reading this Forum. Remember these are only posts from people with problems. My opinion of Dell comes from having owned three, and I love them they work great and I have never had a major problem dealing with Dell. I have returned a system, they sent me a replacement and I returned that one too. They picked up the Air Freight on the replacement and the returns on the original and the replacement. They must have spent more on Air freight then the system cost. I had the replacement by noon of the second day I called. If that is not service!!

Compaq, that was my first computer, I could give you an hour long story of the problems and answers to the problems I got from Compaq. I was even dealing with Bo McBee's office (VP of Quality and Satisfaction) in Houston. No thanks I will stick to My Dells. Computers are like Cars, If the one you own runs, then it is the best made!

My $.02 worth.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 also, and let me tell you, I love it, no problems with it at all, and I've had it since October. Best computer I've had to date. I have never owned a compaq, but know people who have, and I have helped them get them running and let me tell you, I would never buy a compaq even if they were the last computer on earth. Nor would I ever get a gateway again. (that what i had prior to this one)

Samuel,
I have owned a number of computers over the past 22 years. My
first "IBM Compatible" was a PC's Limited, which later became Dell.
My experiences:
9 of my computers have been Dell. I have never had one single
problem with any of them. Both my sons, my sister, her sons and
daughter-in-laws all own Dells. Every single problem any of them have
experienced were of their own doing, and were quicky resolved either
by me or Dell's excellent Customer Service.
3 of my computers were Compaq. 2 required on-site service. One
required replacement of every component inside the case. They had no
qualms doing what they had to do. Total down time on that machine was
a little under 2 weeks.
At work (I am a systems engineer), we own some 400 PCs. Of the
more than 100 Dell PCs and servers, none have failed. And most are in
continuous service (24/7). Some of these machines are 4 or 5 years old.
My newest PC is an 8200. It has worked as advertised, right out of the
box.
I agree with the other posts on this thread. Dell makes the best
computers on the market. Like anything else, when you sell millions, some
people will have a problem or find something to complain about. By far the
majority of us are very satisfied customers. You won't go wrong buying
the 8200.

Hello, First off this forum is for people to help other people with problems. Yes there are alot of people on here that have problems with there "new DELL pc" but on the other hand we dont see the other 3 million people that dont have any problems at all. I have owned 4 Dells pc's ranging from 2 desktops, notbook and server. I personally will never go anywhere else unless i decide to build my own again. Does compaq have a help forum? is there little complaints? Maybe cause not alot of people buy them or nobody uses them for much more then office use. If you ask me COMPAQ is a rellay poor computer for anything more then a office PC due to its low upgradability. its low end processor contract. The fact that COMPAQ doesnt believe in AGP Ports. I know at least 15 people that have COMPAQ's and they all say they want a different pc and they dont like COMPAQ. Now you tell me!! GO GET YOU A DELL!!!

Samuel I bought a Dell 8100 Dec. of 2000 and have had very few problems with it most due to poor applications by third parties.

I have NOT had any crashes or blue screens or any problems at all in the last year.

Of course understanding your operating system and proper maintenance of your computer is crucial to enjoying the computong experience instead of major headaches.

Get a good book on the OS you plan on buying and frequent Dell talk as much as possible which will lend itself to experiencing few problems.

Good Luck!

The only problem with my 8200 has been with the original noisy fan. Dell sent out a replacement and I installed 2 days later. I have Dells, IBM's, Compaq, and Other in my history at home and work. All brands have had major breakdowns except for the Dells. Other than Office, I would buy additional programs from somebody else.
