Drive 2 not found Serial ATA

The message (below) happens after POST, thus requiring user intervention. When F1 is pressed, the system boots fine with no errors once in the OS. This issue presents a problem, due to system updates when the system reboots, a user has to be there in order for the system to be accessible.

I disabled the drive yesterday once I opened the box and figured out SATA 2 was the DVD drive.

I will use your link and find out about replacing the drive.

Thanks.

Always include PC model in your posts. :emotion-5:

Do you actually have 2 hard drives? Are they in a RAID array? Raid 0 or RAID 1?

If you look in BIOS setup, is the SATA 2 port enabled?

Check the cables and test the drive.

It is an XPS720.

The SATA 2 drive is a CD/DVD drive.

The cables are securely attached, have been removed then replaced. Message continues to appear. Seems as though the drive died - I have never seen a DVD drive die so I'm at a loss for what is going on.

Reboot and tap F2 a few times to open BIOS setup. Find the settings for SATA Drives 0-5. Disable SATA 2, and be sure to  save the change when you exit setup.

If it boots correctly now, that suggests the optical drive failed. You can find optical drives that don't cost very much and it should be easy to swap out the old drive. You can find instructions to replace the drive in the manual.
