1TB Hitachi hard drive not detected on computer

Hello,

I recently got an Alienware laptop, i love it, but I have been running into some issues since i got it and now its really starting to bug me that they are still happening. I was hoping they were just simple windows 10 bugs that would be resolved in an update but it appears that is not so.

One of the major issues is that it I cannot see my SATA HDD in devices and drives window. It only shows up about 50% of my log-ins. The biggest problem with this is that Steam and all my games are installed on that hard drive so they all show up as the black white paper icons and they cannot be used. A restart so far has always fixed that but it’s becoming a bit irritating to be constantly doing this.

this is what happens if i click on it:

Please point me in the right direction. I’ve tried updating drivers but this doesn’t seem to have solved it. Could this be a hardware issue?

Computer:

Alienware 17 R3

Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz

Installed Memory: 8.00 GB

System Type: 64-bit OS, x64 based processor

Hard Drive: Samsung 128 GB (Samsung SSD CM871 M.2 2280 128GB

Hard Drive: 1TB Hitachi (HGST HTS721010A9E630) *this is the one that doesn’t show up all the time

Let me know if you need more information.

Hi,

Thanks for confirming this. It could be a hardware issue, did the 1TB hard drive come with this system or you bought it separately?

Hello,

I’m sorry about that, I meant to say in a Private Message, since it’s your private account data.

Oops...my bad.

So how do we proceed? Any preliminary ideas on what this issue may be caused by?

Thanks by the way for sticking with me all this time. All my other questions I have asked here were never answered and forgotten. You are by far the best help I have gotten so far. It's much appreciated.

Hi,

Send me your Service Tag in a PM. To do this, click on my name first, then look for the "Send private message" option on the top right side of the page. Also, try running an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system to check the main hardware components, click here to view a Dell article that explains how to run this test. Let us know if you receive any errors.

Hi, was this ever resolved? I believe I am running into the same issue with my alienware 17 r3. Got it about a month ago ran steam library from hgst hts721010a9e630 and after running ePSA and intel rapid storage technology, both say there is an error or is at risk.

Yeah for me, reseating the hard drive fixed the issue. You have to find the service manual for it if you don't feel comfortable doing it on your own. All you do is disconnect the connections of the hard drive and reconnect it. That alone fixed my issues
