This article covers how to use Dell Recovery Media for OS reinstalls.

Dell Backup and Recovery Pre-Installed

1. Locate the Dell Backup and Recovery Icon.

2. Click OK at the Enable Enhanced Support prompt.

3. Click Later on the left side of the screen.

4. Click Recovery.

5. Choose Factory Image.
6. Click Yes, Continue.

7. Choose Restart.
8. Choose Advanced Options.

9. Choose Next at Factory Refresh.

10. Choose Next to Start Data Backup.
    NOTE: You may click Skip if no data backup is needed.

Dell Backup and Recovery Cannot Be Found in the Operating System

1. Press F8 at system startup. If Dell Backup and Recovery cannot be found in the OS; it is possible to go to the Repair menu by pressing F8 at system startup

3. Choose Repair Your Computer.
4. Choose Dell Backup and Recovery.

5. Choose Factory Refresh.

6. Choose Next to Start Data Backup.
   NOTE: You may click Skip if no data backup is needed.
   NOTE: You may need an external hard drive or high-capacity USB key to complete the data backup.

Backup and Recovery with a Bootable USB Key

If Dell Backup and Recovery is found in the OS but when told to do the Recovery, it comes back to the Desktop; you can create a bootable USB key that can run the Factory Recovery.

1. Locate the Dell Backup and Recovery icon.

2. Click OK at the Enable Enhanced Support prompt.

3. Click Later on the left side of the screen

4. Click Factory Recovery Media to create a formatted USB key.

5. Insert at least a 8GB flash drive.

6. Confirm that the media finishes creating.

7. Restart the system.
8. Press F12 to access the one time boot menu.

   NOTE: If the boot mode is set to Legacy, choose USB Storage Device. If the boot mode is set to UEFI, use UEFI: PMAP
9. Choose Advanced Options.
