Can I switch to other Microsoft 365 plans?

You can transition your account within service families. (For example: Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3 to Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5.) You cannot transition between Microsoft 365 service families. That means from a Microsoft 365 Business plan to a Microsoft 365 Enterprise plan or conversely. To change from a plan in one service family to another, you would first have to cancel your account with the plan you have. Then sign up for a different one. (For example: From a Business plan to an Enterprise plan.)

NOTE: If you transition your account within a service family, then your domain name is transferred to your new account. This is whether you brought your own domain name to the Microsoft 365 account or you set up a domain name with Microsoft 365.

NOTE: If you brought your own domain name to use with Microsoft 365, that domain name is available when you sign up for your new subscription plan. Setting a domain name with your Microsoft 365 account delays you 90 to 180 days before that name is available for your new subscription plan. (For example: yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com.) If someone else has taken the yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com domain name during that time, you cannot use it.

You can add the domain name that you own to Microsoft 365 to create both domain-based email addresses and a public-facing website.

To add your custom domain to Microsoft 365, use the instructions in the following article: Add a Domain to Microsoft 365 This hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies.

The cloud: This is the common term that is used to describe web-based computing services that are hosted outside of your organization. If you use cloud-based services, then your IT infrastructure resides off your property. (off-the-premises) A third-party maintains it (hosted) instead of residing on a server at your home or business. (on-the-premises)

In Microsoft 365 this includes things like information storage, computation, and software. These are located remotely on servers owned by Microsoft.

Services such as webmail, mobile banking, and online photo storage are cloud services that you probably already use. Because this infrastructure is located online or in the cloud, you can access it anywhere. (For example: From a computer, tablet, Smartphone, or other device with an Internet connection.)
