Alienware headsets may encounter microphone issues and not work.

- Alienware Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset | AW725H
- Alienware Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset | AW920H
- Alienware Wired Gaming Headset | AW520H
Headset and dongle firmware and drivers must be updated to the latest version to resolve the microphone issue.
Caution: Updating only the headset or dongle may cause the headset to have an issue or not to work.
Update the firmware for both the headset and dongle to the latest version available using the Alienware Command Center or the Dell Drivers & Downloads.
- Connect the headset using the charging cable first.
- Download the latest wireless headset firmware.
- Connect your headset to your computer through the USB cable.
- Open the downloaded wireless headset firmware file.
- Tap the update button. Once the firmware update is complete, the "Update Complete! OK" message is displayed.
- Close the window.
- Connect the headset using the dongle.
- Download the latest wireless dongle firmware.
- Connect the dongle to your computer.
- Open the downloaded firmware wireless dongle file.
- Click the update dongle button. Once the firmware update is complete, the "Update Complete! OK" message is displayed.
- Close the window.
- Test the microphone to determine if it is now working. If it is not working, continue to the next steps.
Note: If firmware upgrading resolved the issue, then it is not necessary to reinstall the driver but if it is not resolved then issue reinstall the drivers.
Reinstall the headset driver.
- Open the computers Device Manager and select audio inputs and outputs:
- Headphones
- Headset Earphone
- Headset Microphone
- For each of the three settings above, right click and select properties, driver, and uninstall device.
- When all three are uninstalled, restart the computer.
- Windows automatically reinstalls the drivers.
- Test if the microphone is now working properly.
