For the best viewing experience, assemble the monitor stand, connect and organize the cables, and set up the monitor ergonomically.

Attaching the stand

The standard monitor stand is detached when it is shipped from the factory. To learn how to attach the standard monitor stand, see the user manual of the Dell P2724DEB monitor.

To learn how to set up any other monitor stand or monitor arm, see the setup guide of the product.

CAUTION: Do not remove the monitor from the packaging box before attaching the stand.
NOTE: The stand is not installed at the factory when shipped.

Ergonomics

Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy.

  • The monitor must be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20 inches to 40 inches from your eyes).
  • The top edge of the screen must be set at eye level when you are sitting comfortably. Adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this.
  • Position your computer so that the monitor and keyboard are directly in front of you as you work. Special shelves are commercially available to help you correctly position your keyboard.
  • To reduce the risk of eye strain and neck/arm/back/shoulder pain from using the monitor for long periods of time, we suggest you to:
    1. Set the distance of the screen between 20 inches to 28 inches (50 cm to 70 cm) from your eyes.
    2. Blink frequently to moisten your eyes or wet your eyes with water after prolonged usage of the monitor.
    3. Take regular and frequent breaks for 20 minutes every two hours.
    4. Look away from your monitor and gaze at a distant object at 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds during the breaks.
    5. Perform stretches to relieve tension in the neck, arms, back, and shoulders during the breaks.
  • Ensure that the monitor screen is at eye level or slightly lower when you are sitting in front of the monitor.
  • Adjust the tilt of the monitor, its contrast, and brightness settings.
  • Adjust the ambient lighting around you (such as overhead lights, desk lamps, and the curtains or blinds on nearby windows) to minimize reflections and glare on the monitor screen.
  • Use a chair that provides good lower-back support.
  • Keep your forearms horizontal with your wrists in a neutral, comfortable position while using the keyboard or mouse.
  • Always leave space to rest your hands while using the keyboard or mouse.
  • Let your upper arms rest naturally on both sides.
  • Ensure that your feet are resting flat on the floor.
  • When sitting, ensure that the weight of your legs is on your feet and not on the front portion of your seat. Adjust your chair's height or use a footrest if necessary to maintain a proper posture.
  • Vary your work activities. Try to organize your work so that you do not have to sit and work for extended periods of time. Try to stand or get up and walk around at regular intervals.
  • Keep the area under your desk clear of obstructions and cables or power cables that may interfere with comfortable seating or present a potential trip hazard.

Connecting your monitor to the computer

To connect your Dell P2724DEB monitor to your computer:

NOTE:
  • Dell monitors are designed to work optimally with the Dell supplied cables inside the box. Dell does not guarantee the video quality and performance if non-Dell cables are used.
  • Route the cables through the cable-management slot before connecting them.
  • Do not connect all the cables to the computer simultaneously.
  • The P2724DEB default setting is DisplayPort 1.4. A DisplayPort 1.1 graphics card may not display normally. Reference No image when using DP connection to in Common Troubleshooting Steps for more information.
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Connect the power cable to the monitor.
  3. Connect the video cable (USB-C, DisplayPort, or HDMI) between the computer and the monitor.

When setting up your Dell P2724DEB monitor, ensure that the front panel buttons are at the bottom right.

A diagnostic test helps determine if a Dell monitor is normal when faced with a blank screen, blurry image, flickering or other abnormalities.

Verify that the monitor is working correctly by running a diagnostic test if you experience the following symptoms.

  • Your computer does not turn on or shows any sign of power.
  • Your computer does not show any indication of activity, the screen is blank and does not display the Dell logo during start-up.
  • Your computer gets stuck at the Dell logo screen or does not respond to any keys during start-up.
  • You cannot see any display on the screen.
  • You hear the windows chime, but the monitor screen is blank.

Self-Test Feature Check

Your Dell P2724DEB monitor provides a self-test feature check that allows you to check if the monitor is functioning properly. When the monitor is connected to the computer but the screen stays dark, run the monitor self-test by following these steps:

  1. Turn off the computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper self-test operation, disconnect the video cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable) from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. A floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background), if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains white. Also, depending upon the selected input, the dialog box scrolls through the screen.
  4. This box also appears during normal system operation, if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
  5. Turn off the monitor and reconnect the video cable.
  6. Turn on the computer and the monitor.

If the screen remains blank, check the video card (GPU) and computer, because the monitor is functioning properly.

Built-In Self-Test or Built-In Diagnostics

Your Dell P2724DEB monitor has an integrated diagnostic tool. Hardware diagnostic helps determine if the screen abnormality issue is with the monitor or the video card on your computer.

If you observe any screen anomalies, you should separate the monitor by performing the built-in diagnostics (BID).

  1. Ensure that the screen is clean with no dust particles on the surface of the screen.
  2. Select OSD items of Self-Diagnostics in Others feature.
  3. Press the joystick button to start the diagnostics. A gray screen is displayed.
  4. Observe if the screen has any defects or abnormalities.
  5. Click the joystick once again until a red screen is displayed.
  6. Observe if the screen has any defects or abnormalities.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the screen displays green, blue, black, and white colors. Note any abnormalities or defects.

If you do not detect any screen abnormalities in the diagnostics test, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card (GPU) and the computer.

If you notice any abnormalities in the diagnostics test, contact Dell Technical Support for repair options.

During the manufacturing process, it is not uncommon for one or more pixels to get stuck in an unchanging state. Such pixel issues are hard to see and do not affect the display quality or usability. Learn more about Dell Display Pixel Guidelines.

The USB-C port on your Dell P2424HEB supports USB Power Delivery, Data, and DisplayPort video signal. The USB-C port can be used for video and data signals, and supply power (90 W) to a compatible laptop using a single USB-C cable that is provided with the monitor.

NOTE: Dell P2424HEB can supply power using the USB-C cable only to a compatible laptop that supports Power Delivery (PD) over USB-C. Not all laptops with USB-C support Power Delivery. For more information, see the user manual or contact the laptop manufacturer.
