Symptoms

No Video on HDMI to a 4K display

Owners of Alienware Aurora gaming and Precision Tower workstation desktops have reported a video issue with their NVIDIA RTX 3070, 3080, and 3090 add-in graphics cards.

The RTX Series:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X
Note: This problem may occur on any desktop that is purchased with one of these video cards installed.

They report the following symptoms:

  • It displays No video after a warm reboot (restart).
  • Reseating the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) video cable resolves the issue for a time. (The HDMI connector is at the back of the desktop and at the back of the display.)
  • The problem goes away when you change the video cable to a DisplayPort (DP) cable.
Note: This has only seen when using HDMI as a stand-alone connection to a 4K monitor or TV.

The following table lists the NVIDIA VBIOS of the cards at the time of writing this article. You can check the version on your device using the NVIDIA system information. The resolution takes you through what to do if the VBIOS does not match what is listed in the table.
