In this video, we'll go through to troubleshoot wireless issues in Windows 8. Before we start working on your computer, check if other devices like phones, tablets, or computers can connect wirelessly. Did you know Windows 8 has built in diagnostics to fix network and wireless issues? To run this troubleshooter go to the 'Control Panel, then click 'Network and Internet. Then click, "View network status and tasks".
Now select, "Troubleshoot a Problem". You can now choose the appropriate option based on the issue. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed. After completing the troubleshooter, if you are still unable to connect, check if wireless has been disabled. Find your wireless switch and confirm it is in the on position. It is a sliding switch on either the righ or left edge of your computer. In some models wireless can be turned on or off with a key, or combination of keys.
Look for the wireless icon to recognize a wireless switch. It is typically the Fn (Function) and F2 keys to toggle the wireless function. Check if the wireless adapater is installed properly in the device manager. Make sure it doesn't have a warning sign. If it does, the Wi-Fi driver needs an update. If your computer is set to 'Airplane mode', Wi-Fi will not function. To check, open 'Charms' and click 'Settings'. You will see an 'Airplane mode' icon if it is enabled. Click this icon to turn off 'Airplane mode'. Select your wireless network and click 'connect'.
If your network is secured, enter your network key. To ensure you've entered the correct key, click and hold the password reveal button. Click 'Next when done'. Now you have options to enable or disable sharing. Select your preferred options and you will be connected to the network.
If you've changed the network key recently, right click on the network, then click, 'View connection properties'. Check 'Show characters' then change the network key. Click 'Ok' when done. We hope this video helped to resolve your wireless issue.
