In this video we will cover the process of importing the virtual disk configuration of a RAID controller from Dell's 12th generation systems to a 13th generation system. Please note that you should not import configurations that result in creation of more than 65 disks for Enterprise-level PERC controllers, and 32 virtual disks for entry-level PERC controllers.
Now let's begin. Turn on the 12th generation system and press "F2" to go to the System Setup page. Click "Device Settings", and the system loads the device configuration data. Select the RAID controller. Now go to virtual disk management, and then click "Select virtual Disk Operations".
In the Select Virtual Disk drop down menu, you can view the available virtual disks. Remove the required physical disks that are part of the virtual disk from the 12th generation system. Please note that the system should be turned off while removing the physical disks.
Now turn on the 13th generation system and press "F2" to go to the System Setup page. Insert the physical disks, and click "Device Settings", and the system loads the device configuration data. Then select "Raid Controller". Click "Configuration management", and then click "Manage Foreign Configuration". Click "Preview Foreign Configuration". And then click "Import Foreign Configuration".
Select "Confirm". And then click "Yes" to continue importing the foreign configuration. When the import operation is completed successfully click "OK". Then click "Back". Now you can click "Virtual Disk Management" to view the imported disk. For more information, visit Dell.com/powercenter or Delltechcenter.com/powercenter.
