XtremIO Connectivity parameter change

per the most recent XIO Upgrade Customer Preparation guide, there is a requirement to change the array connectivity mode from PDL (previous default setting) to APD if you have VMware ESX servers attached. See KB 483391.

I am OK doing that but the KB doesn't provide information regarding impact to other non-ESX initiators such as RecoverPoint.

Is it safe to assume there will be no impact to non-ESX hosts with the connectivity parameter change? It's a cluster-wide change thus my concerns.

PS: I do have a SR opened to answer this question but I haven't received a response yet (2 days) and i have a scheduled activity this Sunday to change one site array.

thanks.

for those who may have read this, i received a response from support.

This connectivity APD setting is specific for ESX hosts and does not affect your RPA's. Please note, that you do want to set this to APD as APD expects for the paths to return after the storage controller reboots during the upgrade and PDL does not, as it is "Permanents Device Loss".

Thanks.

Jim,

is this change non-disruptive ? At what code is it now a requirement ?

Thank you

the change is online and is detailed In the kb. We are at 4.0.15-24 and am looking to go to 4.0.25-22. The customer preparation guide (v 1.2) that I received recommended that the connectivity parameter be changed from PDL to APD and that any VMWare ESXi hosts have their initiator-os parameter flag set to 'esx', if not already set.

Both parameter changes are online with no impact to data availability and can be done via xio cli. the Initiator setting can be performed via the gui, as well.

I'll be updating parameters for one array and set of ESXi hosts this Sunday in preparation for the OE upgrade. If I experience any DU issues, I'll update this thread.

I applied the connectivity parameter update on a XIO yesterday with no issues reported. I'll do host OS parameter update this upcoming sunday.

I applied host initiator OS settings change from 'other' to 'esx' and again, there was no impact.

So, my experiences are that these two parameter changes can be made on the fly with no impact to data availability.
