XPS 9315 touchpad moves the cursor but neither taping nor clicking work
A few months ago all of a sudden the touchpad on an XPS 9315 stopped responding. It moves the cursor but neither tapping nor physical clicking register. It also appears to be stuck in the "clicked" position so when the cursor moves, it draws a rectangle on the desktop. I got a new laptop since and have been periodically checking if the problem would go away. Even waited for the battery to get completely discharged but all to no avail. Of course, it happened a few months after the warranty has expired.
Has anyone seen this?

Remove the base cover and check the battery for signs of swelling -- if it's swollen, immediately remove and dispose of it outside your home or office. Replace the battery with a new one:

If the battery is OK, the touchpad sensor or the palmrest assembly needs to be replaced.

@ejn63 Thank you for a quick response. I've seen posts about swollen batteries impacting the touchpad. Will take a look later today and we'll post here what I found.

@ejn63 The battery looks perfectly flat and even. Disconnecting the touchpad and cleaning the contacts didn't help. I guess it needs a new touchpad but I can't seem to find a silver one.

There are a number of them listed on EBay - the alternative is to replace the palmrest assembly.

@ejn63 I'll try the touchpad first. Replacing the assembly is more involved in terms of removing a bunch of components.
