XPS 8960
New XPS 8960, mechanical click 1-2 times an hour while in sleep mode only.
Recently woke up XPS 8960 to do some work, put back to sleep, and now clicks 1-2 times a minute.
Read other convesations, no real solution(s). Expecting PSU to fail soon due to unneccessary activity.

I may be able to confirm if the clicking PSU is expected and is a normal behavior. Would you open the panel and check for the PSU Dell P/N number. As I understand, that is an expected behavior with the high efficiency power supply in new systems. The clicking noise is a relay operation in the high efficiency PSU. The relay is part of the power saving design when turning on or turning off the PSU, or resuming from any sleep or standby state. The relay turns on or off to produce that metal clicking sound.

You might want to read this thread for an alternative explanation...

@Chino de Oro Expected behavior would be 1-2 times an hour, not 1-2 times (or more) a minute.

Dell support says to use this workaround:
1. Do not use Windows-L to "lock" (and eventually "sleep")
2. Map the "sleep" button on the keyboard to "hibernate" (swapped out the OEM USB keyboard for a wireless one, so this is N/A)
3. Re-configure the power settings to make "hibernate" an option for the power icon
4. Do not use "sleep" on the power icon, but do use "hibernate" on the power icon
