XPS 8950, AMI SecureBoot UEFI platform key is NOT SECURE!
I have a Dell XPS 8950. Dell, along with a lot of other PC makers, totally botched their implementation of UEFI Secure Boot. Read about it on page 2 of the Security Now! newsletter here: https://www.grc.com/sn/sn-986-notes.pdf . The platform key shipped with a "sample" platform key that was never intended to be sent out on working PCs.
Also on grc.com https://www.grc.com/isbootsecure.htm there's an app that tests whether the SecureBoot Platform Key that shipped with your PC still depends on the "DO NOT USE" SAMPLE platform key, or whether your key is properly secured. If yours is like mine, it is not secure. That means our PCs are not protected from boot-time malware. Dell needs to fix the firmware and provide an update.
