XPS 8940, VRM and SSD heat sinks

I recently replaced the CPU cooler on my i9-10900. Now I'd like to see about cooling for my VRM and SSD.

There is a Dell heat sink for the K-model unit VRMs mentioned on page 50 of the Service Manual (part #612F7), but it has been out of stock for some time.  It normally costs around $5.  For a while there was an aftermarket unit available on Amazon for about $25 (!!!), but it too is out of stock.  Is anyone aware of any other options for cooling the VRM?

I also wonder if there isn't a heat sink available for the KIOXIA SSD modules.  All of the heat sinks I see on Amazon mention a model 2280 SSD, but I don't see any such designation on mine (see photo below).  Has anyone found a heat sink for this SSD?XPS 8940 SSD.jpg

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

This is not a warranty issue. I am merely trying to improve cooling for the voltage regulator module and solid-state drive.  Unless you can help procure the part I need (612F7), I don’t see why you need my service tag.

@Richmond Dan  I'm currently looking to buy the VR heatsink here in UK.  The one sold on Amazon by Deal4go comes and goes (currently not available), but the price is a lot higher than others quote from Dell, so I'm loth to pay the higher price.  But I can't find out how to purchase the 612F7 VR Heatsink from Dell here in UK.

My thoughts exactly...why pay 4 or 5 times the price Dell charges?

@Richmond Dan your NVME seems to be 2280. The difference between 2280 and 2230 is length. 2280 is 80mm, 2230 is 30mm. Looks like you have the 80.

@Jon-62 @ Regarding VRM heatsinks, I've seen people buying just regular square heatsinks and self-adhesive thermal pads to mount the heatsinks on the VRM chips. You can find lots of shapes and sizes on Amazon. For example: https://www.amazon.ca/Awxlumv-Heatsink-Copper-Cooler-Computer/dp/B08MF73N1D/

You can tape tiny hs or a long one on but you need to jumper between the screw holes for the heatsink to make the VRM heatsink missing error go away.

Something small and short that fits the screws and is insulated. Making the Jumper means you can swap cpu for something better without fear of the dreaded press F1 to continue.

@speedstep I think that message only shows up on machines that came with a heatsink from Dell. (K CPUs?).

My G5 did not include a heatsink and no error message. I ended up buying the Dell HS, but even with those small individual ones, it would have been ok.
