Dell XPS 8940 CPU Upgrade question

Hello, I currently have a Dell XPS 8940 with an intel core I9-10900 CPU. What is the fastest CPU I can upgrade to for this machine, and will it be worth the upgrade cost?

10900k. Not much difference to upgrade to 11900(k).

@redxps630 Thank you so much! Is there a worthwhile difference in performance between the 10900 and the 10900k? I work in music production

I doubt it.  10900k is for people who want to overclock cpu to >4-5 GHz to beat the record in gaming.  If you are not into fast video apps I do not think you need the k cpu. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-10900k-cpu-review/7

@redxps630 The 500W PSU that came with my XPS 8940 emits a lot of EMI and I would like to swap it for a higher quality PSU. I understand an adapter cable is needed and that the PSU might not fit in the case. Is it safe to run a PSU outside the computer chassis? Is the adapter cable sure to work?

You can get a high quality SFX psu which can sit loosely inside 8940 case.  Psu outside case is not shielded by metal case therefore emits more EMI than you want.  It is a desperate move for people who want to power high power gpu. Adapter cable from moddiy made of premium quality materials is better than generic ones.

@redxps630 Thank you, could you please recommend a PSU that will sit inside the case and emit very little EMI?

Also, is this the cable I need to get? Main Power 24 Pin to 6 Pin Adapter Cable for Dell OptiPlex 3040 3050 3060 - MODDIY
