Starting Patch Process

Starting Patch Process

WSM newbie, so please forgive me for asking such a basic question.

I'm wanting to patch/deploy an updated version of an OS image, and I'm trying to follow the instructions in the admin guide. I've made a copy (on the server) of the base image file (which is in Volatile Cache mode), and have designated a reference device.

I'm at the step where I'm supposed to select "Start Patch Process for this OS Image" on the Image Details page of the image I want to update, but that option isn't showing up.

I had thought I would be able to perform the patch process while clients are connected to the base image, then push out the patched image after I was done updating (the documentation says "The updating process is designed so that it does not interfere with your current WSM environment. During the updating process your WSM environment continues to stream the currently active OS Image").

Do I need to disconnect all clients from the base image before the "Start Patch Process" link appears (which would definitely "interfere with my current WSM environment")? If that's not necessary, any ideas why I'm not seeing the "Start Patch Process" link on my OS image details page?

Again, I know this is probably a basic question, but this is a new platform for us, and we're just learning it. Thanks in advance,

-Greg Williams

Greg,
you must 1st use the "Allow Distribution of this OS Image" link on the OS Image details page to get the "Start Patch Process for this OS Image" link.
Prior to this, change the write cache modes as desired and double check name, description etc., as you will not be able to alter these values after the image is "deployed".

*****EDIT:****

Previous post deleted...I was just a little impatient: I didn't realize the server had to do some processing/CRC re-calculation before the image would be ready for patching; I think all is good now!

Thanks so much for the help!
