Windows vista home basic installation disk
I am working on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I installed a new 500 GB hard drive and need to do a install of Windows vista home basic. I have the product sticker with product key on bottom of the laptop. I do not have the installation disk and windows vista cam preinstalled.
I purchased a installation disk from EBay ...that was a joke....tried everything! Downloaded a ISO file but do not know how to convert it to make it a bootable disk. Called Dell support as well as Microsoft and they do not sell the vista version of windows or supply back up copies.
I can't see purchasing a new copy for $50 or $60. I might as well purchase a windows 7 copy.
Are there any suggestions as to what to do?

I am not sure what you purchased, but THIS is what you need.

Windows Vista Installation .isos were removed by Microsoft in February. No systems shipped with Vista have warranty so Dell do not support it anymore.
Microsoft's mainstream support for Windows Vista ended a while ago. Extended support ends in 2017. Its not worth the $60 purchase. Its better to pay for a Windows 10 license.
There is no official free upgrade path for Windows Vista however unofficially you may follow the expired 10130 Upgrade path:

Installing Windows 10 may require chasing after Window 10 drivers as Dell does not offer Windows 10 drivers for that model laptop.
The cost for that genuine Dell Vista DVD is $27. I would personally be going that route.

The Inspiron 1525 is the home version of the Latitude D630 which I have installed Windows 10 TH2 on. All the necessary drivers are inbuilt to Windows 10 except for the video which is the Intel 965 but this will be downloaded automatically via Windows Update. The only thing which needs to be installed from Dell is Dell Quickset.

If only the OP would come back and tell us what happened.
I am not as infatuated with Windows 10 as you are, so I'll stick with Windows 7 as long as I can with Windows 10 TH2 running as an experiment on my M6300.

For the Windows 7 installation you are best to use these drivers:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/driver-sets/inspiron-laptops-windows-7/inspiron-1525-windows-7-32-bit/
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/driver-sets/inspiron-laptops-windows-7/inspiron-1525-windows-7-64-bit/
You can later use the Windows 7 key to take the free upgrade to Windows 10 TH2 (or later build).
