InstallShield iKernel installation issue

Hi guys.

I have Dell Dimension 2400 and I am trying to update or reinstall the chipset drivers for my computer using the software given on Dell's website. I have downloaded and saved the correct setup file but when I double click on it I get the error message shown below.

"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified."

I have tried deleting the InstallShield folder under the Common Files directory but that did not work. I have also tried an iKernel update but that did not seem to do the trick. I am still getting this message telling me that the computer cannot find iKernel.exe. Can someone please help!!!

Try these 2 links below:

Based on your troubleshooting I see you've tried the article posted on the InstallShield web site. Hopefully some steps above will help, (DCom, permissions, etc).

Try their error glossary too -> http://consumer.installshield.com/common.asp?source=all

More important is why are you installing chipset drivers? Chipset drivers need to be installed before all other drivers after reinstalling Windows. You don't normally update these drivers. That file listed on the Dell site is 4 years old and is an update for new chipsets, which you don't have. Explain why you think you need this and what your problem is. Your operating system forum would be a good place to post your problem.

I am trying to reintsall/update the chipset drivers because Windows XP Professional (with SP2) is informing that my USB devices are not operating at a hi-speed as they are supposed to. I know my computer has 2.0 ports and that every single one of my devices is 2.0 compliant. After trying a number of fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling the USB controllers in the Device Manager nothing has changed. So I have reached the point where updating the chipset drivers may just help do the trick. I have had to reinstall Windows before but the chipset drivers I used where those given in the Dell Resource CD so I figure what was on Dell's website must be newer and could help fix my problem.

In the meantime you can disable that error message by following the steps here -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835967

By chance are you using a USB port hub? What device are being used in your USB ports?

Good idea, SP2 does update the USB drivers.
