Booted into BitLocker after BIOS update KB5012170

XPS 17 9710

XPS 17 9710

After running and installing the last Windows 11 security update KB5012170, my laptop will not boot beyond the BitLocker recovery key blue screen. I use my recovery key and it keeps rebooting into BitLocker. After hours and hours and hours of reading and trying ALL the fixes I've found in both the Dell user forums and the Windows user forums, nothing is unlocking BitLocker to allow me to get to my desktop.

Makes me angry that MS has known about this issue since 2019 and they still haven't fixed the bug.

Does anyone have any other ideas?? Has anyone tried the fixes listed under the advanced troubleshooting tab?

I can't lose all my data, files, or folders as I use my laptop for both work and personal.

Thanks

Did a factory reset. I'm back up & running. The main irritation now is having to reload and set-up all my software and folders/files. Really unhappy with the lack of support that I got from support.

You are correct about MS knowing of the problem. I offer this link from MS and this one from Dell though you may have seen them already. And this page from Neowin. And yet another from Computerworld. It is amazing that almost a year after the update I have yet to see any proof that MS has corrected the problem with a patch or new update.

I had seen the MS & Dell pages.

I'm now at the point of doing a factory reset & updating. This is a pain. Both MS and Dell have failed us.

Why is a social media team member answering support chat? They keep having to walk away for 5-15 minutes to talk to a real tech. I'm now on day 3 of Dell support after spending a week of trying everything myself to recover my system. Can I just talk to a real tech instead of someone reading from a script? Apparently, Chat support goes home at 6 pm. Sure makes you start thinking about jumping over to that other company.

How will I know if everything is backed up onto my external drive? I left the room to fix dinner when it was at 50 GB with 100 GB to go and when I came back to my desk, Support Assist was on the screen. Why aren't all these steps in the manual? I wouldn't need to contact support then.

Yes, I am irritated.
