vSphere Essential plus kit for VxRail, and vSAN license

Hello Community team,

Can I use vSphere Essential plus kit on VxRail nodes instead of standard and enterprise ?

Why I want this approach  ?

I have a two node vxrail in ROBO site which has 4 CPU and will use an independent server to be used for witness and vCenter so on vSphere essential plus kit will cover the whole solution.

In the other hand, the normal solution will have the following:

  1.  Qty (4) vSphere standard license for the two nodes.
  2. Qty (1) vSphere Standard for one CPU socket server of witness and vCenter.
  3. Qty (1) vCenter license to be on witness server

So using vSphere Essential plus kit will be very cost effective.

Another question :

What is the best vSAN license to be used in the two VxRail cluster ( VSAN standard or vSAN Advanced , or vSAN  ROBO ) and what are the differences between them for this solution ?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately not, only standard, enterprise plus and ROBO. https://dell.to/3lB1SCP

I have a customer with a 5 Node VxRail, if they renew vSphere Licenses it will be about $30K per year, which they simply can't afford.

Would this be possible for them?  Reduce the VxRail to a 3 Node VxRail (ejecting one node at a time) and then purchase VMware Essentials Plus Kit (3 Host; 96 Core Max) for Vsphere license?  Subscription based License.

They already own the VSAN License.Only thing I can think of is the VDS Limitation...

Hello pcondon1671,

What you are suggesting would not be possible. You can add nodes to a VxRail system without any issues. If you need to remove a node, then you will need to do a complete reconfigure your cluster.
