vCenter HA on VxRail cluster supported?

Hi,

Could you tell me whether we support vCenter HA on VxRail cluster? If not now, do we have any plan for it in coming future?

Thanks a lot.

No it is not supported at this time. Currently with VxRail 4.0 we are using vSphere 6.0 and vSAN 6.2. When the time comes in a future release to leverage vSphere 6.5 and vSAN 6.5, we will investigate whether we use it for the VxRail vCenter.

There is nothing stopping a customer from using it as part of their Customer Supplied vCenter Deployment option.

Hello,

it seems that vxrail version 4.5 still doesn't support vCenter HA (having active, passive and witness nodes as guest vm)

How do you suggest to improve HA? We have experienced that if the node that is hosting VCSA goes down, all VM hosted on that node are not migrated on surviving hosts.

Hi Lorenzo,

I'll leave the management to speak about the future HA plans, but the symptoms you described above are pointing to some reconfiguration in your environment. HA is not dependent of the vCenter: does HA/DRS require vcenter to be up |VMware Communities

Hello emc_troy,

I found yesterday a confirmation on what you said, on the official vmware docs
How vSphere HA Works

It's clear now, thanks

Lorenzo,

Also just wanted to mention that vCenter HA is supported if you use an external, customer-supplied vCenter.  See page 9 of the vCenter planning guide that you linked to above, showing the vCenter Active, Passive, and Witness nodes that are supported with vCenter 6.5 and VxRail 4.5, if you are using an external vCenter deployment.

With VxRail 4.5.210 you can move the external vcenter into the cluster. Then you can the passive vcenter deploy on the witness host and the vcenter witness vm on the other vxrail side. The support for the external vcenter remains to vmware.
