New to VXrail - renaming things like vcenter?

Hi

When Dell deployed our VXrail, the engineer warned against renaming VMs and various other components.  Not DNS renames, just the names that are in vcenter.

So can we happily rename the "VMware vCenter Server Appliance" to its real name (FQDN) ?

Also, what about the distributed switch port group names, can we rename those to something better?

 - Hmm this forum doesn't seem very busy, is there are better place for "all things vxrail?"

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your question. It will probably work but we do not have an official procedure to do it. https://dell.to/3Du7Mfk and https://dell.to/3jiHWUq

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. This is the best place that we monitor for questions, but there may be other more active user forums.

You can look into SolveOnline then find How to rename VxRail component procedure.

VxRail Appliance -> VxRail Procedures -> Miscellanious -> How to

The procedures is not available for VxRail 8 but VxRail 7. I'm sure that VxRail 8 has the same restriction as VxRail 7.

Some Versions and Components allow rename, but others don't.

When your environment is version 4.7, see Administration Guide "Chapter6 Other administrative task".
https://dl.dell.com/content/manual45407139-dell-vxrail-appliance-4-7x-administration-guide.pdf

Over version 7.0, you can see it "Other administrative tasks" from online help menu.
Online help menu is next to "About VxRail" in vSphere Client [Cluster Name]->[Configure]->[VxRail]->[System]
