Is Hardware Upgrade within the existing VxRAIL Possible?

Would like to get answers to 2 specific questions on existing VxRAIL Nodes :

  1. Can the internal Hardware components like Memory and CPUs  be upgraded/changed within the VxRAIL Nodes? ( I do know that we can add additional drives of the same type/capacity to the existing VxRAIL Nodes)
  2. Can the existing Vmware Vshpere licenses be upgraded from Vsphere standard to Vsphere Enterprise license? If yes, what would be the process and cost implications?

We do not support upgrading single CPU systems to dual CPU systems on VxRail.

Depending on the HW platform, there are HW upgrades available. For instance, on the PE 13G and 14G you can add memory, GPU cards, etc. I'm not aware that we support upgrading the CPU though. Would need to defer that question to Product management.

As for the license, yes you can upgrade from standard to enterprise. Customer would need to purchase said license. You can refer to the Licensing and ordering guide for more information.

Thank You Gary, The system is a E460F currently configured with 256GB and needs to be upgraded to 512GB per node.

Will I be able to upgrade this through the DellEMC Quoting tool ( MyQuotes) or does it have to be done by a specific team?

Revlon,

As far as I'm aware, yes you would order the memory upgrade thru MyQuotes. But since I do not have access to it, I cannot say for certain.  They don't let us Tech-Geeks near those systems...

I know VXrail can upgrade HDD/SSD, but for CPU/Memory can we replace (not add) with higher model CPU/DIMM?

I have the same question, can CPUs be swapped to a higher model CPU? Anyone have answers?

There is slide in one of the tech decks that shows this.

Here are the parts that a customer can replace:

Memory

Hard drive

SSD Cache and capacity

PCIe network interface cards

GPUs

Micro SDHC card

Power supply

Parts that are Field replaceable unit (FRU)  I'm assuming only if there is defect, so customer can't swap out CPUs or add a CPU if they are running a single.

NVMe cache drive

processors

motherboard

HBA330

BOSS controller card and M.2 Sata disk

Network daughter card (NDC)

Has this changed? Does VxRail support upgrading from single CPU to dual CPU?

Hello jayr91,

This has not changed, as we don’t support upgrading a single cpu system to dual cpu.

Dell Sam,

So one can RASR a single node, add a CPU, and then add the node back in.   This is obviously not just adding a CPU to a running cluster member, but just like adding another node to the cluster with a dual CPU.   I was told by top level Dell vxRail support that this should work.

Hello all,

Does anyone know what processor upgrade options available for a E450F? Current processor is Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4114 CPU @ 2.20GHz.

Thank you,
