Yes, there are issues with changing the names. I believe you can change the VSAN name, but do not change the Local Data Store names. I just had issues this week with an upgrade from 4.7 -> 7.0 because I had changed the names on the Local Data Stores. Our vSAN name is currently VxRail-vSAN. Once support helped me rename the Local Data Stores back to the original names, the upgrade proceeded with no issues.
The same thing has burned me on changing the default network names in the distributed switch, too.
If you do change something, I would highly recommend adding a tag or make note of the original names.
