Top 6 Documents I use to answer student questions during a "VxRail Administration" class

When we teach "VxRail Administration" classes there tends to be common themes among the questions we receive from students. Below are the resources I reference most often in class:

From the Dell Technologies InfoHub for VxRail:

  1. Dell VxRail System Tech Book:
    1. A concise overview of what a VxRail is and the products and solutions that make it up.
  2. Dell VxRail Network Planning Guide:
    1. This is for the networking questions we get in class about Day 1 operations such as the network profiles available for cluster initialization, and Day 2 operations that include the network configuration options available after the cluster has been initialized.

From the Dell Technologies Support Site for VxRail:

  1. Dell VxRail 7.0 Administration Guide
    1. This document provides a summary of configuration changes that can be made leveraging the VxRail ecosystem as opposed to a typical vSphere task. Normally, we use this document to see if the desired type of operation is available in a VxRail, and if so, we use SolVe Online for step-by-step instructions to execute the procedure. See my Better Call SolVe post for an uncomfortably verbose tribute to SolVe.
  2. Dell VxRail 7.0.x Release Notes
    1. Release notes are used to answer questions like when did a feature, fix, or workaround, become available for a given version of VxRail.
  3. VxRail 7.x Support Matrix
    1. Covers questions about supported hardware, software, and firmware versions. Additionally, it has tables that show which slots vSAN caching and capacity drives should be placed into when scaling the storage on a given model of VxRail.
  4. Dell VxRail Event Code Reference
    1. Students often ask what type of events does VxRail monitor for. This document provides a complete listing of event categories, events, and in which versions of VxRail the events are available.
