Un-encapsulating host devices and removing VPLEX from environment
The customer would like to totally remove VPLEX from the environment. The existing LUNs are presented from a PowerMax 8000 via Cisco 9710 to VPLEX. The VPLEX is running Geo 6.2.x code. The host OS are AIX 7.x, Windows and Solaris.
I am planning to do the following to by-pass VPLEX and re-assign the LUNs directly from PMAX.
Please let me know if the steps are good or did I miss anything.
- Zone Host to PMAX FA
- Create new IG,PG,SG for host with the same set of LUNs that was in use under VPLEX
- Server team to shutdown host
- Remove devices and delete VPLEX storage view
- Delete host masking view (of VPLEX)
- Create new host masking view with PMAX FA
- Server team to boot up and follow their steps
- If no issues, Dismantle VPLEX constructs
Also, will the AIX hosts see the same PVID or will it change when presented directly from PMAX?
Appreciate your expert comment.

Hello Saif.A,
The process that you have listed should work. The PVID should stay the same.
