I believe it depends on the Geosyncrony version. I have 5.1 so support had to login and change it. I THINK 5.3 supports doing it yourself.

Our upgrade to 5.3 is on hold due to some older AIX servers with old ODM versions. We have submitted an RPQ and are waiting for EMC to reply as to whether or not we can move forward and not lose connectivity.

We are running 5.1 also, but in the planning phase to upgrade to 5.3.
Thanks for the information; I will connect with support for more
clarification.
Sincerely,

That's interesting. Our TC said that even if we shutdown the hosts, did the Vplex upgrade, then booted up, the process of the HBA's logging into Vplex and ping-ponging may crash the Vplex. What AIX versions and ODM versions are you running? If you prefer we can take this discussion outside of the Vplex community forum.

We have already been through the same pre process check while planning for
our Vplex upgrade. Fortunately, all of the AIX servers in our environment
are up to date with the required ODM versions. I learned from EMC that
the ODM version is significant only if you don't want the server to go
down or loose it's storage during upgrade. If the server(s) is shutdown
prior to the upgrade and booted up after the upgrade there will not be an
issue. So, per EMC, you will lose connectivity if the correct ODM version
is not on the server(s).
Sincerely,
-

There are a couple of customer visible Primus articles related to VPLEX NDUs and AIX:
KB000016342 "AIX: What to do if DU is experienced on AIX hosts during VPLEX NDU procedure"
KB000091068 "VPLEX: AIX host loses all paths to VPLEX during NDU."
